I’m burning through these old Three/Delgado serials. I really do enjoy their dynamic.

An update on my incredibly slow progress catching up with old Doctor/Master episodes:

I’m mostly rolling my eyes at “Journey’s End” fix-it fic (because, y’know, I thought it was brilliant and doesn’t need to be “fixed”) but I have been enjoying
dwseason5. Mostly because it’s got the Doctor, the Master, and subtext, and what could be better than that? (Well, to be written well, which this is also.)
I finally started watching some of the old Doctor/Master episodes. I don’t think I’ll have anything new to say about a serial that aired over 35 years ago, but I’ll give you my reactions to “Terror of the Autons” anyway. I’ll warn in advance that this is filtered through my RABID and largely tongue-in-cheek Doctor/Master filter.

I finally finished “The War Games”! And, hey, only a month after I started watching it.
So, next up is “Terror of the Autons.” Any advice on that one?

Hmm. The War Chief is kind of hot. No wonder people like to think he’s an incarnation of the Master.
(Sorry, I’m four episodes into “The War Games,” and it’s slow going. Just how many times can these characters get captured, escape, and get captured again?)
Jamie is growing on me. (Hey, I’m actually feeling affection for an old Who character!) Zoe remains meh. And the Second Doctor is… there.
I like the moment when the Doctor and the War Chief recognize each other. It’s certainly a lot more fun if you imagine he’s the Master and consider all the history between them.
Four down, six to go.
How did it get to be 5am already? There are no words for how much I don’t want to get up early for the Veggie Pride Parade tomorrow. But. Obligations. *sigh*

jaydk last night. ( Just a couple of thoughts about why Rose and Doctor/Rose work for me )
We also watched the Second Doctor serial The Mind Robber. ( It was okay, but Old Who is still not doing much for me )
And we watched the next Sarah Jane Adventures two-parter, “Eye of the Gorgon.” ( This show continues to be very well made )
And, of course, we watched “Planet of the Ood.” I’ll try to write a proper review later.

I probably shouldn’t have posted my “Fires of Pompeii” review at midnight on Sunday night. Alas, it gave me so much to think about that I just couldn’t sleep until I wrote it all down.
jaydk and I had a lot of fun watching it; we managed three viewings, plus the commentary and the Confidential (OMG tourist!Tennant! In shorts! And he’s such a liberal! Awww.) And somehow we also managed to squeeze in the first couple episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures and the horrid 1996 Doctor Who TV movie.
( The Sarah Jane Adventures: Invasion of the Bane and Revenge of the Slitheen )
( The Doctor Who 1996 TV Movie )
( a couple more thoughts on Doctor Who 4×01: Partners in Crime )
And here’s a fic rec: a Doctor/Rose fic that I didn’t hate! The Scientist by
orange_crushed, which has a Doctor and Rose that I actually find recognizable and interesting! No tiembabies or weddings, but a genuine exploration of what they mean to each other. Plus, plot and action! (And, I admit, I particularly love that it starts out shattering the cliche by having Rose “married” to human!Doctor and … she’s miserable. Heee.)
That said, when the Master showed up, I was very disappointed that he didn’t have sex with the Doctor. *sigh* I need more Doctor/Master fic! Look at this, I’ve been reduced to reading het! :P

jaydk had the gall to go out of town for Easter weekend, so we didn’t get in nearly as much Doctor Who viewing as usual. But we did manage to meet at her place on Sunday night with a bottle of wine, takeout from Candle Cafe for me and sushi for her, and a big pile of DVDs. And we watched….

Fic rec: A nifty Doctor and Donna adventure, Leap in the Dark by
nonelvis. This is the kind of story that could easily be an episode. It uses time travel in an original way, plus has a really cool setting and great characterizations of the Doctor and Donna.

Happy Birthday,

Tonight, we’re going to see Patrick Stewart in “Macbeth.” I am super excited. :)
We had another Doctor Who night on Saturday, in which we watched:

This animated Master mood theme is the most awesome thing in the history of ever.
I got it here.
Also, I watched The Curse of Fatal Death last night and WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME THAT IT ENDS WITH THE DOCTOR AND THE MASTER GOING OFF TOGETHER TO HAVE SEX? I know, it’s a big not-official-canon joke thing, but it is written by Steven Moffat, so um SHUT UP. :P
(Also, I really kind of want a female Doctor now. She was cool.)
