This letter written by 20-year-old David Bowie to his first American fan is pretty much the cutest thing ever.
(Well, I guess the surprised kitten is cuter.)
I’ve been having a hard time with Farscape fanfic (first step to making a story readable: Find: “half-breed”; Replace: “Scorpius”) but I’ve been enjoying vids. Particularly comedy vids, like this Scorpius/Braca one, or Scorpius as the Grinch. Man, I wish I’d been in the fandom when the show aired… I love it very much but there’s not really any kind of outlet for my enthusiasm. Active fandoms are a lot more fun.

That letter is just the sweetest damn thing.
Somewhere in my stash o’ crap I have a postcard that’s a thank you note from John Waite, whom I interviewed and wrote about when he was with the Babys. I’ve always had a massive soft spot for him due to that.
Huzzlewhat has written Farscape — she’s a wonderful writer, so you might want to see if you can find them. I am certain she never used “half-breed.”
With the new boxed set, I bet you’ll see a revival of Farscapelove.

Hi Laura
I saw your recent post about Lucifer but can’t seem to comment on it.
Can you tell me what diet you give him to control his diabetes?
The food the vet has given us is pretty revolting and doesn’t look as though it really fills the criteria for diabetes which we’ve read up on.
They gave us Hills WD and MD canned food. We’ve also been giving Buffy high protein stuff like salmon and chicken.
What do you think? Are our vets just enslaved by the petfood companies?
Hope Lucifer gets better soon.

FelineDiabetes.com is the best website ever. Go to the forums and read, read, read, and ask questions. The people are so helpful. The site also links to a chart of cat foods with counts of their carb, protein, and fat content which I found incredibly helpful in terms of choosing food that would be good for Lucifer and that he’d be willing to eat.
Basically, a diabetic cat should eat a 100% grain free, low carb wet food diet. No dry food at all. There are much better foods than the prescription ones recommended by vets. If you look at those food charts, you can see the percentage of carbs in each type of food. I am feeding Lucifer Wellness grain free canned Chicken variety (1 3-oz can in the morning, 1 3-oz can in the evening). Before that I had tried versions of Fancy Feast, but it was Wellness (originally the Chicken & Herring formula, and I switched him to plain Chicken later) that got him off the insulin. (I was also blood testing via his ear with a human diabetic meter to monitor the process, which the FelineDiabetes site will explain how to do.)
It took about four months after I changed Lucifer’s diet for him to go off the insulin. It doesn’t always work, but read up on it and see what you think…

For whatever reason I can’t get to your most recent post.
I hope Lucifer is doing better. Our black cat has herpes and was having a bad flareup as I was leaving for Christmas. That means she stays at the vet’s to get her antibiotics and eye drops. So expensive for roomieC who is the owner of said cat.
For the Lymond thing…like the books? ascian3 read and loved them, and has given them to me. I’m stalled on book two right now, but fully intend to finish it in the new year.

I’m sorry about your cat. I can’t believe how expensive it is to care for pets. I mean, it’s worth it, I would do anything for Lucifer, but MAN. I’ve spent more on a single purchase for this cat than I’ve ever spent on a single purchase for myself!
The Lymond books are fantastically awesome and wonderful. A lot of people get stalled on book two (I didn’t even like it at first) but if you keep going, book three is usually the one that hooks people. It becomes more of a continuing arc at book three, and when it ends you’ll be voracious for book four. So, just keep going! The payoff is so worth it.
The Paris thing is that a group of Lymond fans are organizing a Lymond-themed gathering in Paris, going to places mentioned in the books and taking tours of museums and historical places that are related to the Lymond era. Unfortunately it’s abominably expensive, but I’m going to try to go.
