*crosses fingers*
Those of you who read my journal regularly are probably aware that, every night before I go to bed, I get down on my knees and pray that John Simm will return as the Master for one of the 2009 Doctor Who specials.*
Nothing has been announced yet, BUT…
John Simm is out doing interviews for his latest project, The Devil’s Whore, and he keeps saying things that get my hopes up.
“Ryan is proud of the fact that his dad’s been in Dr Who - one of the reasons I wanted to be in the programme, in the first place, is because he’s such a fan of the show - but he was a bit freaked out by all the attention and I’m sorry it happened that way.
“Though I’m not, by the way,” adds John, hastily, “ruling out a return to Dr Who in the future.
“It’s too exciting a show to be a part of for me to do that.”
From the Daily Record
I mean, he complains about the attention, so I’m all “Oh no, does that mean he won’t do it again???” and then he qualifies it to say that, don’t worry, he would TOTALLY do it again anyway. Surely he wouldn’t say that unless there was, y’know, an actual serious possibility of him returning? He’s certainly not talking about it like it’s some job of the distant past….
And then this one is even better:
Has the Beeb asked him to be Doctor Who? “I’m the Master. Simple as that. I don’t want to be Doctor Who. I might be the Master again… I’m not allowed to say.”
From the Times Online
WHY WOULD HE NOT BE ALLOWED TO SAY UNLESS HE WAS ACTUALLY DOING IT? I mean, I don’t think he’d be forbidden to say that he’s not coming back, right? If he wasn’t coming back, he wouldn’t have a contract to forbid him from saying anything! Right????
Also, “I’m the Master.” Present tense, not “I was the Master” but “I am the Master.” That totally indicates his state of mind. He’s got to be coming back. Surely he can’t be dropping all these hints just to torture me?
Christ, they’d better make an announcement soon or I think my head will explode.
* I don’t actually do this.
Current Mood:
hopeful &
nervous

Simm’s performance in Who is one of the most batshit awesome things I have ever seen. I was just astounded. I really, really hope they can find a way to bring him back.

“Batshit awesome” is exactly the right term.
His chemistry with David Tennant was so wonderful; I think it’s a crime that they hardly got any screentime together in the same frame with no makeup/CGI in the way. That’s my only major complaint about the RTD-era and if Simm comes back, it should be remedied. (*prays*)

OMGS! I JUST said the same exact thing over on someone else’s LJ–why wouldn’t he be allowed unless he was?
All of my spoiler sources say that YES, he’s definitely coming back….

Everything is so pointing in the direction of his return. I’m just afraid to get my hopes up too high lest my heart be broken!

I not only think he’ll be back, I think he’ll be responsible for Ten’s regeneration. I have rather mixed feelings on this….

I’m a bit worried myself. But I trust RTD to make it good.

One hour and twenty minutes to The Devil’s Whore:)
Though owing ot the England Germany match, I’ll have to wait an additional hour to catch it on C4+1.

I saw something about this in Digital Spy? I think? Awhile back. I think being hopeful is probably not irrational.

There have been a ton of rumors, so I hope the old “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” thing comes true! I don’t want to get my hopes up too high until we get an official confirmation, though, because it seems like the British tabloids will print anything to get attention. *crosses fingers*

YOU CRACK ME UP SO HARD. :D
I’ve hear rumours for months, as well. And even though the extent of my love for the Master (or Doctor/Master) is… well, not as much as yours, it would be so much fun if he came back. I adore John Simm a little bit.

Thanks. :)
How could anyone not love Simm!Master? (Okay, aside from those three bitter old Roger Delgado fans whose opinion no one cares about.) He was wonderful (and John Simm is beyond adorable) and it would be the perfect cap to the DT/RTD era of Who if Simm returned. We got everyone else back in “Journey’s End”; he’s the obvious one missing. *hopes*

I don’t think it’s impossible. RTD has a knack for getting people loyal to him. Both Tate and Tennant have made that directly clear.

What? You don’t actually get down on your knees and pray? Though it’s probably good that you put in the disclaimer…
I saw those quotes too and it does certainly seem promising. He’s dropping all sorts of hints. I’m very much looking foward to the casting spoilers for the specials. As soon as we see photos of him I may start getting on my knees to pray that Simm and Tennant get some actual in person nonaged scenes together.

In any other fandom, I wouldn’t have put the disclaimer, but with Doctor Who you just never know. Better safe than sorry!
I don’t know if he’s dropping hints or he just sucks at being subtle, but it sure does look likely.
RTD *must* know what a travesty it was that Simm and Tennant had so little actual screen time together. I’m sure he will remedy it this time around now that he’s actually gotten a taste of how awesome their chemistry is.

I will be devasted if this turns out NOT to be true. The Master is the role that made me fall in love with John Simm. I knew he was special since he’s sharing screen time with David Tennant and John Barrowman yet he was the one who I couldn’t take my eyes off of.

Exactly. I didn’t know who the hell he was when I first saw those episodes, but by the end I was a committed fan.
