Eep.
Tennant (maybe?) leaving Doctor Who.
Assuming this is true, I’m not heartbroken. It would be good for his career, and it’d be the best consolation prize ever if this makes it more likely for Hamlet to come to Broadway. Plus I don’t want my happy memories of the Tenth Doctor ruined by too much of Steven Moffat’s sexism and insecurity.
But… when the Tenth Doctor regenerates, I am going to CRY AND CRY. *gulp* I reserve the right to wail and gnash my teeth when it actually happens. Thank god he’ll exist forever (kinda sorta) in that AU with Rose!
This also would mean that they have to bring back John Simm for one of those specials, dammit. I’ll never forgive the makers of this show if they don’t give me Ten and Simm!Master at least one more time! With no freaking CGI and age makeup and cell phones keeping them apart!
ETA: It’s official.
Current Mood:
contemplative

I think my heart is breaking. I love Jack and Ten as the awesome ex-boyfriends SO MUCH. No no no no no. I am so sad.

They’ll live on forever in fanfic. Even more than most, since there’ll always be a convenient AU!Ten for the fanfic writers to drag over and reunite with Jack. (Or with the Master. *hopes*)

I would have liked one more full season of Ten. However, I’d rather he left now than do another season with less than full enthusiasm. I’ll admit, I would like to see him in more adult roles, anyway.
And if this makes a Broadway run more likely? Well, that IS good news.
As you say, Tennant can make an appearance as alterna-Doctor any old time he wants to. A pretty brilliant move, that–he gets to age and everything.

I SO SO SO hope this means Broadway. That is the main thing keeping me serene. That and, well, I really don’t like Moffat and will be pleased not to feel obligated to watch his version of the show at all. (*crosses fingers*)
Also, I hope this is true because it means the show will go out while I still love it, which means that I’ll always love it and be able to rewatch it happily. Unlike, say, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which ended so badly that I still feel kind of sick when I think about it, and will never be able to rewatch it with any kind of joy.

I agree, for much the same reason. Haven’t watched my BtVS episodes in ages. Not sure I ever will.
I have a feeling that Ten will regenerate on Rusty’s watch. Even more than Nine, Ten is RTD’s Doctor. I can’t imagine him leaving such an important moment for Ten–his last important moment–up to Steve Moffat.
I’m thinking Ten will regenerate at the very end of the last special, and then Moffat will have a new Doctor for the 2010 Christmas special. Works for me, since I know I want to buy the specials, but the jury’s still out on Moffat’s Doctor.
Hey, wouldn’t it be great if the Master was the Doctor’s companion/nemesis for all of the specials? I wonder if they are going to be one arc, or all stand-alones? I’d prefer an arc, myself, since it seems we’re arcing towards Ten’s regeneration. That would give it the proper build-up.

I so hope the Master is involved somehow. Who better to be there for his end than his best enemy? And the parallel to the Master dying in the Doctor’s arms would be so interesting. I wonder if the Master would kill him? There’d have to be all kinds of angst and subtext involved.
But I’m getting ahead of myself here. I just want a good ending, and I definitely think RTD would do a better job of writing it than Moffat! (To be honest, I’d been starting to resign myself to a season of Moffat writing Ten. I’m really surprised that Tennant might be leaving so soon!)
Is Moffat doing the 2010 Christmas special? I can never keep track of the damn things. I’d want Tennant’s regeneration to be in RTD’s last special, whenever it is. (*crosses fingers*)

From what I understand, RTD is doing this year’s Christmas special and three specials next year, all starring David. The 2009 Christmas special has already been filmed, and the other three will be filmed in February/March/April, when David is done with the London run of Hamlet. So far as I know, Moffat has the Christmas 2010 special to himself, and that seems like an excellent time to introduce a new Doctor.
The Simm-Master having something to do with Ten’s regeneration would be awesome. Maybe they do one of those mutually-assured-destruction things? All kinds of sexual tension underneath? Yummy.

Yeah. Much as I *adore* David’s Doctor, I really dislike the Doctor as written by Moffat. And it means that David will have time to do other things.
I hope the news is true.

I do mostly hope it’s true, although, like I said, I’m going to be devastated to actually watch him regenerate. I do hope it happens with RTD in charge; I trust him so much more as a writer.
But still. It broke my heart when Spike “died,” and I 1) hated him by then and 2) knew he was coming back. And it was horrifying to watch Ten’s fakeout regeneration in “The Stolen Earth.” An actual regeneration is a million times worse. I do not want anything bad to happen to the Tenth Doctor! (*shudders*)

Oh, yes, the actual regeneration is likely to utterly break my heart. I’m so incredibly fond of him.

I’m glad. Yeah, it’s sad, but I’d so much rather it happen now, with Russell in charge, and the two of them wrapping it all up nice and tidy. Clean break, and I won’t have to watch that Other Show. Or at least, if I do, I won’t be so invested in it.
Also, as I’ve said before, I’m kind of done with Ten’s emo since JE. I love and adore David Tennant, but I’ll be glad when Ten gets wrapped up. I was hoping for him to go this way, and I’m glad to see it seems he is.

Well okay if I win a million dollars like I plan to this year it’ll totally be number two on my list. ONE IS MOVE SOMEPLACE WITHOUT COCKROACHES.

You could just do what I’m planning and run up credit card bills that you’ll spend the rest of your life paying off…

I’m not even sure I have a job in my future. I’d rather play safe than sorry.

I’m sorry you were spoiled about something you didn’t want to know, but this news is and will continue to be *everywhere*. I cut tag spoilers that have the potential to stay secret, but I’m not going to waste my time cut tagging something that will be on the cover of major newspapers and will be the talk of fandom for the next 18 months. If that bothers you, you probably shouldn’t read my journal.

Eh, c’est la vie, because you’re right. News like that will splash all over the ‘net. I’ll better tolerate my disappointment in Who casting after my coffee. Maybe. I’d prefer to keep beliving in Santa Claus, too.
